Leadership

James Palmer

30 years in competitive ship broking.  Instrumental in building one of the World’s most successful tanker broking teams and turning around the fortunes of the tanker business in another major global player.  Member of Partnership Executive Committee devising and implementing the overall group strategies.  At board level also charged with leadership roles in three other businesses: Wet Freight Derivatives, LNG and Chemicals.  As a competitive broker he has been largely focused on refined products, spot, T/C and negotiating some of the worlds largest COA’s.

Well-connected across the industry, James has a reputation for managing and building business’s,  integrity and developing a long-established network of senior contacts across oil majors, traders, NOC, ship owners, operators and shipbrokers.

Prior to establishing 1991 Shipping Ltd, James was a Senior Partner at Simpson Spence and Young Ltd and Managing Director of their Global Tanker Business, preceded by 14 years at Galbraith’s Ltd, 7 as a Main Board Director.

Mark Nankivell

Mark has worked in shipping since 1979 starting as a broker before joining Goldman Sachs in 1993 as a charterer where he managed the physical transport requirements for the global oil trading division of J Aron and Fleet Trade and Transport.

After 10 years with the company Mark joined Morgan Stanley in 2003 to develop a physical transport business which included a Derivatives Trading desk and an Operations Department managing a fleet of oil tankers. In 2008, Mark joined Barclays Bank plc to perform a similar commercial trading role and help establish a global presence in the shipping and freight trading markets. After the Bank withdrew from physical oil trading in 2013 Mark established Stormonth Shipping Ltd to continue his relationship with the industry and has completed a number of projects for FTSE 100 and 250 companies.

Mark’s professional experience is highly commercial having been a Broker, Trader, Charterer, Operator and Owner and after passing his FSA sponsored Futures and Options exam in 2001 has managed  global FFA trading books for major banks.

Mark successfully passed his MA equivalent Level 7 Diploma in Corporate Governance in Oct 2016
